The Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital remains the only referral center in the Western Region, but has not been in the best of shapes for a long time now, thereby threatening proper health delivery. The facility currently lacks adequate wards to contain patients; a situation which forces the hospital accommodate emergency cases outside the emergency ward sometimes. The hospital also lacks adequate medical equipment needed for proper health care whilst the remaining few are challenged. The current leadership of the hospital have so far added some facelift to the physical structure of the facility with efforts being made to procure more equipment.
Western Region Minister Kobby Okyere Darko Mensah in a recent media engagement hinted the upgrading of the facility to a teaching hospital will begin this year.
Speaking to Skyy News in an exclusive interview, Medical Director of the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital, Dr. Joseph Tambir indicated that, the idea to first establish a satellite medical campus in the hospital is to ensure teaching of medical students, physician assistants and others happen at the hospital.
