As Africa records new cases of people getting infected with Covid-19 coronavirus every day, nations are putting things in place to help to contain the spread of the deadly disease. Monday 16th of March 2020, the Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba Foundation committed to donating 100,000 medical masks, 20,000 test kits and 1,000 protective suits to each of the 54 nations on the African continent.

In a post on Twitter, the CEO of Alibaba Group emphasized how Africa should be very ready and prepared as the effects of the pandemic continue to spread. the Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba Foundation are not donating to only Africa but also to other coronavirus-hit countries including Japan, South Korea, the U.S., Italy, Spain and Belgium.

Addressing the need to share resources and knowledge to combat the health crisis, Ma tweeted: “As members of the global community, it would be irresponsible of us to sit on the fence, panic, ignore facts or fail to act. We need to take action now!”

Ghana introduces Website for COVID 19 in Ghana Cases and Info – The Risk Communication Team on COVID-19  in Ghana has put together a website ‘COVID 19 in Ghana Website‘ that will provide updates to the public every six hours on Ghana’s case count of the COVID 19 in Ghana as well as relevant info on the global stage.

The website will seek to give an accurate update on COVID 19 in Ghana to make it open for information sharing as well as preventive measures put in place.

Mr Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Minister of Information, made the announcement at a media briefing update on COVID-19 cases in Accra on Sunday.

The ‘COVID 19 in Ghana Website is to limit the number of fake news in the system and ensure that media houses at all times have correct facts and figures on confirmed cases.

Mr Oppong-Nkrumah urged the media to refer to the official website and report on confirmed cases and other related issues.

He also spoke on the mass media campaign which has started on TV, radio, and social media on the disease adding that the Information Service Department would also be commencing a nationwide public campaign to inform people on the preventive measures.

The Minister said the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA), the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Editors Forum among others would be meeting on 16th March 2020 to fine-tune guidelines for media reportage and programming support with the Ghana Medical Association (GMA).

Dettol after the media briefing donated cartons of soap and antiseptics to the government to aid tour activities which seek to educate the public on proper handwashing.

Ghana has so far confirmed 4 additional cases of COVID-19 bringing the total number to 6 and 100 suspected cases have tested negative. We trust that, as Ghana introduces Website for COVID 19 in Ghana Cases and Info it will sanitize the system of the virus of misinformation.
